No this is not a post about shit (although I guess maybe? LOL). A while back, I created an equation to explain God in this blog post. GOD = LIGHT = LOVE = ENERGY = LIFE = EVERYTHING = PRESENCE. Well today, I’ve decided to create an equation to describe what exactly “Satan” is. First, while “God” is not some “old white man on a throne” Christian stereotype, Satan too is not some “evil all powerful supreme being of the underworld.” While demons and dark entities do in fact exist, I have not come into contact or read an experience with anyone who has encountered some supreme maleficent being in charge of all the darkness in existence named Satan or Lucifer or anything else like the Christians want people to believe. There has not been a single near death experience that has encountered a “Satan” that I have read. It is my conclusion that that type of Satan does not exist. Satan is a symbol and a metaphor and that is what my new equation is all about:
SATAN = DARKNESS = LACK OF LOVE = LOW VIBRATION = SPIRITUAL IGNORANCE = EGO
Satan is Darkness
The opposite of Light from the God equation would be darkness. The darker it gets, the further you are moving away from Source. The darker it gets the less knowledge, wisdom, and truth that there is. Darkness is where all the negative things can sit and fester because there is no Light shining upon them; no Light to drag them out from the darkness to to shine the Light on them. It is the home of lies, ignorance, delusion, confusion, discord, ineptitude, and inexperience.
Satan is Lack of Love
The further you get from Source/God, the less Love there is. Some people say the opposite of Love is fear (which makes sense to me because fear is the root of all the other negative emotions). Some people say hate is the opposite. Some say indifference. Regardless, a lack of UNCONDITIONAL Love of both self and of others, is a satanic state. Negative feelings and states such as fear, anger, lust, greed, envy, pride, grief, shame, guilt, resentment, melancholy, annoyance, overly criticizing, impatience, intolerance, etc. all are states further away from Love.
Satan is Low Vibration
God is all energy, but Satan is specifically the low vibration of the energy spectrum. Just like Light can be on a polarity between Light and Dark and Love can be on a polarity between Love and Lack of Love, energy also has a polarity of high vibration vs. low vibration. Because God is all energy it also includes the low vibration however Satan specifically is referring to only the low vibration of the energy spectrum. This includes all the negative thoughts and feelings and actions you can think of. Notice how God includes all energy because God is also everything, but Satan is referring to only the low vibration. This hints at the ultimate truth that Light always trumps dark. Love always wins. God always defeats the dark in the end because the dark is a part of God. God can transmute and transform itself and raise it’s own vibration. Satan can only be the low vibrating state.
Satan is Spiritual Ignorance
The opposite of Life from the God equation is not really death but rather spiritual ignorance or I guess you could say spiritual death. It is moving away from our true selves which is Life and Love and Light. When we forget that we are all ONE and interconnected, that every individual and every single living part of life and the Universe is a part of us, and when we forget how to live by the Golden Rule, we are moving towards a state of spiritual ignorance and disconnecting ourselves further away from God and Source.
Satan is Ego
Finally, Satan is just another word for ego which I will spend some more significant time on. What is ego? Ego is the personality in this incarnation. It is the part of us that feels it is separate from the whole of creation. The individual in us all. It is us identifying with physical form and the thoughts in our head. The moment we identify with these things, our ego will fight to the death to maintain our separateness from the whole of humanity. This excerpt from www.near-death.com laying out info that Edgar Cayce received from his near death experiences and visits to the other side quotes it so nicely:
- “The Biblical “war in heaven” between God and “the devil” is a symbolic religious description of this real spiritual struggle within all humans between our lower animal nature and our higher spirit nature. Our higher self – our spirit – is one with (or “a part of” but also “is”) the “Universal Consciousness” which people think of as “God.” The lower self is symbolized as “the beast within” which Jesus taught to put to death by “taking up our cross” and following him in practicing unconditional love through self-sacrifice, self-deprecation, and self-denial in devotion to others. By “crucifying the flesh,” we allow our higher selves to manifest itself more and our lower unevolved animal nature to recede. The nature of the beast within humanity is manifested as self-gratification, self-indulgence, self-centeredness, selfishness, self-consciousness, self-importance, self-righteousness, self-delusion, self-condemnation, self, self, SELF (the “ego,” the “false god,” “Satan“). This spiritual condition of a “conscious self” deluding itself into thinking it is separate from the “Conscious Whole” is what the Bible symbolically refers to as the “fall” of spirit in man at the “Garden of Eden” – or the “fall” of one third of the “angels” from heaven (both Biblical analogies refer to the same spiritual event).”
So many people are assholes and ego goes a long way in explaining the reason why. The ego breeds selfishness, cruelty, hate, fear, conceit, and narcissism. The point of the ego is to stand out and be different for fear of it losing its identity and its “specialness.” The ego will do whatever it can to not be diminished and to not die (although its fight is pointless because its death is inevitable). It will do whatever it needs to do to stay relevant. It has many tools to complete this task of remaining special. First, it loves to compare so that it can make sure everyone knows it is better. It is the most important, the most correct, the most relevant, the smartest, the best looking, the richest, the most powerful, the funniest, etc… anything it can come up with to make it stand out as being different than everyone else. Closely related to comparing is labeling. When you label something, it creates a separateness which allows things to be categorized and liked and disliked. It creates hierarchies which the ego thrives on. Look at social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. While these things can serve as a good way to stay connected, they also ooze ego and provide a perfect outlet for the ego to say “look at me, look at what I’m about, I’m special and important!” What arises from all this ego? Pretty much all the evils in the world (and don’t think this is just an individual human idea, because groups of people such as a nation state or a religion can also fall victim to ego). My music is better than your music, my TV and movies are better than yours, my idea or way of doing things is better than yours, my religion or political party is better and more correct than yours, my country or race or gender or sexual orientation is better than yours, and the list goes on and on. It is easy to see how when the ego is allowed to run rampant and goes unchecked, situations become so dire as to cause individuals or groups of individuals to act out in the most atrocious ways. War, rape, murder, molestation, violence, greed, theft, discrimination, torture, etc. all become tools for unchecked egos to get what they want. The person’s ego has identified with physical form and made its likes and dislikes, possessions, looks, and physical traits its identity rather than what is beneath which is the eternal soul and spirit. It will fight tooth and nail to ensure it stands out and is the most important and special.
Another way of looking at ego is that it is the opposite of Presence from the God equation. The ego lives in the past and the future as a way of maintaining itself. It is a distraction from the place where we can easily access Source which is in the present moment – the only time there actually ever is. It is from our past stories and worry about what will happen in the future that the ego can create such heavy “pain bodies” where we can access all the trauma and stew in our negative emotions over and over for our entire lives. The ego LOVES the pain body because the pain body helps it to exist.
The ego is also very sneaky. Sometimes things that seem like they are not egotistical actually are very egotistical. People tend to easily recognize when someone is being selfish by demanding that they get their way. However lots of depression and victim mentality also stems from ego. The ego is attempting to have the individual appear “in lack” in order to make it special and stick out. For example, “nobody wants to date me,” why am I always alone in the world,” “this job sucks,” “I hate myself,” “nobody listens to me,” “I hate this song or vegetable or carpet so you should too,” all these things are ego. The key to determining whether or not something is coming from ego is to look at what the true focus is of what someone is saying. Does it ultimately involve self and the words “me,” “I,” or “my” or is something just allowed to be whatever it is without fear, judgment, hurt, sadness, or the forcing of others to be like it too. It is ok to have likes and dislikes. All the variety is what makes the world such a great place, and far less boring. However, true self love allows you to just be yourself and allows you to appreciate yourself for all that you are, and it also allows others to just be themselves and appreciate them for what they are.
What about loving others? Does ego come up there too? Yep! True love is not ego. Many times people do, say, think, or feel things that they wrongfully assume are from love. One of the huge problems plaguing our planet right now (and quite frankly it is killing our environment) is the keeping up with Jones’ syndrome. This is trying to possess as many things as possible so our egos can feel even more special. The more we have the more powerful, smart, sexy, rich, and desired we will be as is promoted by our media and the entertainment industry incessantly. Unfortunately, this often translates into hoarding and possessing not only physical goods but also people, animals, and plants. People end up trying to possess someone in order to appease their ego because it means that “they have someone so they can be happy now.” Or they try to change someone because they need this person to fit into their idea of what they need their relationship to be. That is not true love and acceptance. That is conditional love. Choosing partners based on anything related to the physical form is also not true love. Yes we have our likes and dislikes and some things may be more lustful to us in that we physically desire them. However, needing someone to have money or a certain career or 10% body fat or gigantic boobs is not true love. That is just the ego desiring to possess something to “make it happy” so it can be better than everyone else or so it can impress other people by what it managed to get. In reality, you can never possess another living soul – they have all been granted free will. Heck, we can never possess the planet itself, which is why buying real estate is such an insane idea to me as nobody can actually own the earth. We don’t even own our own bodies. This lump of matter called flesh is actually something we borrow and inhabit for about 70-100 years if we are lucky and then it goes back to the earth where it came from. And what about when we fear what others do, think, say, or feel about us? That is also ego. Who cares?! Just be yourself and if someone has a problem with that, then that is their problem. As long as they are not harming us or someone else why get worked up about what others are going to do, say, think, or feel about us? Their thoughts, feelings, actions, and words are their own business, and they don’t concern us.
Is loving ourselves the same thing as ego? No. There is a difference between true genuine self love and ego. Loving ourselves comes from a place deep inside and from our hearts. We love, appreciate and accept ourselves no matter what our faults are, and we forgive ourselves for making mistakes. This is an unconditional love in the same way we (hopefully) strive towards loving other people. We appreciate the ONENESS of our souls to all of creation and the similarities and differences in ourselves and others and let it all just be as it is, free from judgment, comparison, and fear. That is a love closer to the self love I am speaking of. True love of self is of a Soul nature and is eternal.
The first step to diminishing ego is to learn more about it. Now is the time to work on our egos as we are currently living in a state where unchecked and rampant ego is destroying the planet and harming the lives of living beings all over Earth. “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle is a fantastic book to delve into this topic and is probably the most life-changing book I have read in my entire life. This would be on my required spiritual reading list if I ever create one. In that book, he mentions the quote from Jesus: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” I remember having this quote on my wall as a child and not really understanding it completely. I had such an epiphany when I discovered that what Jesus was referring to with this quote is the egoless. The meek are the egoless! I love that so much!
Well there is my formula to explain the infamous Satan. I hope this brought some clarity on the infamous prince of darkness. I also hope this knowledge might help diminish all the fear propaganda on this topic brought to us through Christianity. Really their concepts of hell and Satan are more just tools religions use to scare, brainwash, and control the masses. I also hope this helps inspire people to try to avoid some of the pitfalls found in this Satan equation. I much prefer the God equation and will look towards that one to organize and operate my life from.
